Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.AN entry of 47 countries makes this year's European Table Tennis Championships in Birmingham the biggest, and not since England staged the World Championships in 1977 will so many top-class players be gathered under the roof of the National Indoor Arena. The majority of the world's leading players come from Europe and competing in Birmingham at the biennial tournament will be Jean- Philippe Gatien, the men's individual world champion from France, the European Champion, Jorg Rosskopf, of Germany, and Bettine Vriesekoop, the women's champion from the Netherlands.
Chen Xinhua, Carl Prean and Desmond Douglas, the local player from Walsall still performing at 38, lead the England men's squad of eight, while Lisa Lomas, the European silver medallist, and Alison Holt head the women's squad.
International Tournament Services of Kingsbury, near Tamworth, West Midlands, are the official tour operator to the Championships and will provide hotel accommodation ranging from budget to superior, with transport to and from the National Indoor Arena.
