Sir: I know that you have conducted a reasonable debate regarding the national anthem in the Sports Letters column, but allow me one, final, observation.
The week before Scotland played England at Hampden (the occasion when the Scots drowned out the national anthem with whistles and boos), Rangers entertained their great Glasgow rivals, Celtic in a match the home side won by 4-2 and during which their fans - many of whom would have supported their country the following Saturday - incessantly waved Union flags and sang God Save the Queen and other songs, some of them sectarian.
Do you think they realised, at Hampden Park, what fools they were? Hypocrites or what?
