In other results, France's Yannick Noah beat Sweden's Mikael Pernfors 6-4, 5-7, 10-7, while John McEnroe defeated Iran's Mansour Bahrami 6-1, 6-1, and Guy Forget beat Henri Leconte 6-3, 7-5 in an all-French encounter.
