Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

taly will play their Davis Cup final against Sweden, the holders, on an indoor clay court at the 12,400 capacity Milan Forum from 4 to 6 December. It will be Italy's seventh final, and the first they have hosted. Their one victory was in Chile in 1976.

John Fitzgerald beat Bjorn Borg 7-5, 6-3 in the final of the MTN Champions yesterday in Pretoria to capture his first singles title on the seniors tour. The Australian, better known for his doubles prowess, said he was delighted just to share a court with Borg. "He still has such a presence and he's done so much for the tour as well," Fitzgerald said. Earlier in the tournament, Fitzgerald ousted top seed Henri Leconte of France in the first round and 1996 champion Yannick Noah of France in the semi- finals. "The altitude and the fast surface suits him," Borg said of Fitzgerald. "He's been here 10 times, so he must like to play here." Borg has failed to win a title in his four visits to South Africa. Fitzgerald then teamed with South African Kevin Curren to win the doubles title, defeating the Swedish pair of Borg and Mats Wilander 7-5, 7-5.
