Australia will host the 2001 edition of the Andersen Consulting matchplay championships, which will be played for the first time in California in February. The tournament will launch a new world championship series with three events in the first year and four from 2000. It will feature the top 64 players on world rankings and will be played at La Costa for the first two years. The prize money for each of the series' tournaments is $5m (pounds 3.1m).
