Terry Yorath, the former Wales manager, said yesterday that he had signed a contract with the Lebanese Football Association to coach their national side. Yorath said he had signed an 18-month deal: his role is to prepare the national side for the 1996 Pan Arab Games in Beirut as well as the Asian Cup in the same year.

Jackie Goodwin, the former Birmingham and Brentford winger, has died after collapsing during a VE Day march in Worcester on Saturday. He was 74.

The threat of a fourth club joining the Welsh non-League rebellion was averted yesterday when Merthyr Tydfil were told they could stay in the English pyramid by the Football Association of Wales. The Martyrs face relegation from the GM Vauxhall Conference after finishing in the bottom three.

West Ham have beaten Millwall to the signature of Sutton United's Mark Watson, who has scored 23 goals in 35 games for the Diadora League club this season. The £50,000 initial fee may be doubled depending on appearances.

Paddy Dolan has been sacked by Cowdenbeath, who are next to bottom of the Scottish League Third Division.
