Dundee have signed the former Southampton striker Nicky Banger from Oxford United on a free transfer. The 28-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half year deal at the Scottish Premier League club after impressing during a trial period.

The Southampton captain, Jason Dodd, has been ruled out of action for the next three weeks after an operation on a long-standing knee injury. Paul Mardon, the West Bromwich defender, faces a year out after a second knee operation.

The Bayern Munich midfielder Jens Jeremies was handed a five match ban and fined 10,000 marks (pounds 3,330) by Uefa for stamping on the PSV Eindhoven player, Arnold Bruggink, during a Champions' League game on 26 October. Jeremies was sent off as Bayern lost 2-1.
