Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Celtic's Uefa Cup qualifying round tie at the Welsh side Cwmbran Town has been switched to Ninian Park, Cardiff. A 15,000-capacity has been agreed with Cardiff City for the game, which will go ahead as scheduled on Thursday 12 August.

The Department for Employment and Education has confirmed that Celtic's application for a work permit for Stilian Petrov has been turned down. Celtic will almost certainly appeal against the ruling in their attempt to bring the 19-year-old Bulgarian international midfielder to Parkhead.

Keith Curle, the Wolves captain, has signed a new two-year contract at Molineux.

Birmingham City are to sign left back Wayne Quinn from Sheffield United in a deal worth pounds 1.2m.

The Brazilian international defender Cesar has joined Paris St-Germain from the Sao Paulo club Portuguesa. The centre-back, currently with Brazil's Copa America squad in Paraguay, signed a five-year contract.

THURSDAY'S LATE RESULT: Friendly match: Worthing 1 Brighton 5.

TRANSFERS (Free unless stated): Danny Coyne (goalkeeper) Tranmere Rovers to Grimsby Town; Bradley Allen (forward) Charlton Athletic to Grimsby Town; Brian McGorry (midfielder) Torquay Utd to Telford Utd.
