"He was the best horse I have ever ridden," Charles said of the nine-year-old, who was one of the main hopes of the Irish team. Charles rode Nustria to win the Asprey and Garrard Grand Prix at Windsor this year.
Britain was the only nation to win team medals in all three disciplies of the European Pony Championships, which ended on Sunday at Stromsholm in Sweden. They collected gold medals in show jumping, plus silver in both the three-day event and dressage. Two Britons also collected individual medals: Ernest Connell (show jumping gold) and Kim Levan (three-day event silver). All four British dressage riders were among the top 12 who qualified for the individual final.
