A record Zimbabwean partnership for any wicket of 194 between Dave Houghton and Alistair Campbell put the home team back into the third and final Test against Sri Lanka in Harare yesterday. The pair came together with two wickets down and eclipsed the previous best stand of 192 by the brothers, Andy and Grant Flower, for the fourth wicket against India in New Delhi in 1992-93. Houghton, 38, remained unbeaten on 125 after completing his third Test century while Campbell hit 99.

A superb 98 by Ijaz Ahmed, who added 147 in an unbeaten fifth-wicket stand with Basit Ali, took Pakistan past their target of 222 with more than five of the their 50 overs remaining. Ijaz, who scored 110 in the earlier game against South Africa at Rawalpindi, drove, pulled and swept with ease, slamming a six and 11 fours from only 87 balls.
