Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Darren Gough claimed a hat-trick as Yorkshire lost by 56 runs against Western Province in yesterday's Quadrangular Final at Newlands. Gough's hat-trick came off the first three balls of the 45th over and brought Western Province's innings to an end at 194. The England bowler, who hit 24 in Yorkshire's reply, finished with 4 for 33 while Brian McMillan top scored for Western Province with 59. Yorkshire were bowled out for 138 in 40.1 overs.

Mark Taylor's international future was yesterday looking uncertain as the Australian Cricket Board confirmed that they want one captain for both the Test and limited-over sides.

The Zimbabwe cricket authorities confirmed yesterday they took action over "a breach of discipline" during the recent tour of Sri Lanka, but they refused to confirm that the incident was a bar brawl in which one player broke his jaw.
