THE Detroit Lions lost their best player as well as the game yesterday when the running back, Barry Sanders, was lost for three to five weeks with a torn ligament in his left knee. Sanders, the National Football League's leading rusher, suffered a torn medial collateral ligament in the third quarter of the Lions' annual Thanksgiving Day game, which they lost 10-6 to the Chicago Bears.
