Honours were even for the home teams after Great Britain's rugby league side brought a disappointing finish yesterday to an international sporting weekend.

The England rugby union team had got things off to a reasonable start on Saturday afternoon by drawing with Australia at Twickenham, while the footballers continued their progress under Glenn Hoddle by comfortably beating Cameroon at Wembley in the evening. Yesterday afternoon, however, the Great Britain rugby league team found Australia too strong at Elland Road and lost their series 2-1.
