What do you dislike about touring?

Being away from my family. A week or so you can cope with. After that I miss them.

Which is worse, losing to Australia or New Zealand?

Both.

Do you have a best moment in rugby league?

Winning at Brisbane in the World Club Challenge will always be special. And beating Australia at Old Trafford.

Did you care when England were knocked out of the rugby union World Cup?

Definitely - the same as the football. I want England to win in everything.

What's the last film you saw? American Pie. We went to see it the other night in Auckland and it's absolutely hilarious - the funniest film I've ever seen.

And the last book?

The Guv'nor - that one about Lennie McLean. I like real life stories about people's ups and downs.

Is there another sport in which you would have liked to reach the top?

You couldn't beat travelling the world and playing golf.

Is there a change you would make in the way rugby league is organised?

Fewer games.

Who have been the biggest influences on your career?

There have been so many, but Bob Lanighan, when he was the conditioner at Wigan, was the one who got me onto the weights. After that, my dad and my father-in-law. They both played the game.

What advice would you give to younger players, like your own brothers?

Have something else in you life to back up your rugby. It takes a lot of luck to get to the top and not everyone can make it.

Has your own eight-year-old son shown any aptitude for the game?

Owen's been on the phone to tell me that he's going to his first training session.
