TRACY AUSTIN, the US Open champion in 1979 and 1981, had her first win in nine years when she beat Rennae Stubbs, of Australia, 7-5, 6-4, in the first round of the Evert Cup at Indian Wells, California. The 30-year-old former world No 1 lost two matches in a 1989 comeback. Britain's Clare Wood beat Rosalyn Fairbank-Nideffer, of South Africa in three sets.
