CHEN XINHUA, the English national champion, took the world champion, Jorgen Persson, of Sweden, to five games before losing in the quarter-finals of the European Masters in Barcelona on Saturday. Persson was then beaten in the semi- finals by Michel Saive, of Belgium, who lost in the final to Sweden's Jan Ove Waldner.
