Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

BRITISH Ryder Cup hopefuls fell by the wayside in the third round of the Austrian Open in Vienna yesterday. Charles Raulerson, of the United States, led the field on 204, 12 under par, after a 69 in windy conditions.

Sam Torrance, the 39-year-old Scot who looks certain to make the Ryder Cup team, fell away with a three-over-par 75 while David Gilford and Jamie Spence, who both shot 73 today, also lost ground. Paul Broadhurst, who needs to win this event to take over ninth spot in the Ryder Cup points table, was round in 70 for 210 but will need a superb round today to make up six shots on the leader.

KAREN LUNN shot a third-round 68 to open up a five-stroke lead in the Weetabix British Women's Open at Woburn yesterday. It left the Australian 11 under par, five ahead of Scotland's Kathryn Marshall who shares second place with Brandy Burton.

Marshall, who like Lunn has spent most of this season sharpening her game on the LPGA tour in America, shot a 69. Although the former Curtis Cup player from Monifieth drove into trees for a bogey at the sixth, she recovered with three birdies and an eagle three at the last.
