AT LEAST six unidentified members of South Korea's team for the Barcelona Olympics, some of them rated as medal prospects, have failed drugs tests, with two showing traces of steroid use.

NIGERIA has withdrawn six athletes from its Olympic team after they failed drugs tests. Henry Adefope, of the Nigerian Olympic Committee, said the athletes included Chioma Ajunwa, African record holder in the women's 100 metres and long jump, and the African women's 400 metres record-holder Charity Opara.

CHERYL THIBIDEAU, the Canadian sprinter, has been banned for life after failing two random drug tests. Thibideau, who had been left out of Canada's Olympic squad, was found to have used anabolic steroids.
