SACHIN TENDULKAR scored the first century of India's South African tour as his country strolled to an 80-run victory in the opening match in Randfontein yesterday. Tendulkar scored 100 not out off 92 balls, with 17 fours and a six, as India declared at 207 for 6. Chetan Sharma, their seam bowler, then took a hat-trick as Nicky Oppenheimer's XI were dismissed for 127.

JAVED MIANDAD, who led Pakistan to a 2-1 victory in their recent Test series in England, has been retained as captain for next year.
