LUDOVIC PROTO, of France, beat Britain's Gary Jacobs on a split points decision to win the vacant European welterweight title in Paris last night. The scores showed a marked disparity, with one judge awarding the fight to Jacobs by four points. Proto now has 27 wins from 27 fights as a professional.
