From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The madly spinning transfer merry-go-round shows very little sign of slowing down. According to The People's survey, Premiership clubs could easily splash out another pounds 120m before the summer is out.
A large slice of that cash could be spent on the pounds 7m-rated Matthew Le Tissier. Now that Southampton have lost their manager, Alan Ball, to Manchester City, speculation is increasing again that Le Tissier will also be leaving The Dell. The News of the World say that Chelsea are lining up a pounds 9.25m deal, with Gavin Peacock going to Southampton as part of the package.
The Sunday Mirror claim that an even bigger swap, nominally valued at pounds 10m, is on the cards. They think Manchester United are prepared to offer Andrei Kanchelskis and cash to Tottenham to secure Darren Anderton.
Jason McAteer and Alan Stubbs, Bolton's highly rated duo, are being linked with all and sundry. The Sunday Express says Stubbs will demand a move this week and could follow his old boss to Arsenal. If McAteer goes to Highbury as well, Bruce Rioch is unlikely to be left any change from pounds 8m.
By those standards, pounds 4.5m for David Platt looks like a bargain. According to the News of The World, Sampdoria are prepared to let the England captain return home. Platt only wants to join a club that can win the Premier League, which means either Blackburn or Manchester United.
