Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Leinster's hopes of reaching the knock-out stages of the Heineken Cup for the fourth time in five seasons were all but dashed when they lost their Pool Five visit to Bourgoin, 30-28. The result, which hinged on two penalties in the dying minutes, means that Bath need to win only one of their last two games to top the group and go through to the quarter-finals.

Bourgoin, already too far adrift of Bath, snatched the lead with an injury-time penalty by Alexandre Peclier and then celebrated a rare European victory when Felipe Contepomi, who had already claimed 16 points for Leinster, fell short with a long-range effort.

Biarritz remain in control of Pool Four after a six-try win in Treviso, but they were were made to work hard by the Italians who claimed a bonus point with four tries of their own. Thomas Lièvremont went over twice in the first half for Biarritz and Fijian wing Sereli Bobo added two after the interval.

Wasps have reacted to last weekend's defeat at Llanelli by dropping Matt Dawson, Ayoola Erinle, Jon Dawson and Richard Birkett for today's return meeting at the Causeway Stadium. Joe Worsley, who suffered a knock in training, will also be missing.

Graham Rowntree, sidelined for two months with a neck injury, returns to the Leicester bench for today's Pool Three visit to the Ospreys. Tom Varndell and Leo Cullen both start while the fit-again Gavin Henson makes his first appearance at the Ospreys' new Liberty Stadium in Swansea.

Gloucester snaffled 10 tries at Kingsholm as they romped to a 66-5 success over Toulon in Pool Three of the European Challenge Cup. James Simpson-Daniel and Jake Boer both crossed twice to keep Gloucester four points clear of nearest rivals Bayonne. But Worcester's lead in Pool Five was cut to one point as Matt Lacey's injury-time try consigned them to a 22-21 away defeat by Connacht.
