The New Zealand winger Jonah Lomu says he is still affected by a chronic kidney ailment. The revelation came after Lomu was omitted yesterday by the All Blacks for one of their biggest matches of the rugby season, against Australia in Sydney on Saturday.
The 27-year-old Lomu, who has played 60 Tests, said in a television interview that he had had health problems related to his chronic kidney problems during the Super 12 campaign earlier this year.
"Sometimes you wake up and half your body's swollen," Lomu said, adding that the kidney problem has "never gone away".
Lomu refused to use his health problems as an excuse for losing the All Blacks left-wing position to Canterbury's Caleb Ralph. "The players they've got out there now is the team that should do the job," Lomu said.
