Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Wales have called up the Bridgend centre Dafydd James after it was confirmed that Tom Shanklin will miss Saturday's Test against Canada. Shanklin, the Saracens centre, limped off after nine minutes of the 58-14 victory over Fiji last weekend, and the Wales coach Steve Hansen admitted the player is likely to be out for several weeks, meaning he will almost certainly miss the visit of New Zealand on 23 November.

The Scotland captain Bryan Redpath has urged his side to show more consistency ahead of the visit of South Africa on Saturday. Australia and New Zealand have both enjoyed comfortable afternoons at Murrayfield in the last two seasons, and Redpath wants Scotland to inflict more misery on the Springboks after their defeat to the French at the weekend.

He said: "There have been times when Scotland have played very well – not necessarily against the southern hemisphere sides but against the likes of England and France – and pulled off performances that have got wins. Now we have to start performing more against the southern hemisphere sides."

Brian O'Driscoll's rest from the Ireland team has been short-lived after he was recalled for Saturday's game against Fiji. After captaining the Irish to the 18-9 win over Australia last weekend, O'Driscoll was told he would be rested this weekend. But the withdrawals through injury of John Kelly and Paul Wallace have forced the Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan to recall O'Driscoll and his Leinster team-mate Reggie Corrigan.
