Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan has recalled several of his leading players for Saturday's match against Argentina at Lansdowne Road.

Girvan Dempsey, Keith Gleeson, Victor Costello and Gary Longwell are all reinstated after being rested for the resounding 64-17 win over Fiji.

Their return sees Kieron Dawson, Mick O'Driscoll, Eric Miller and Gordon D'Arcy drop out of the squad, while injuries to the wings John Kelly and Denis Hickie mean that the English-based threequarter pairing of Justin Bishop and Geordan Murphy retain their places after both scoring tries at the weekend.

The New Zealand fly-half Carlos Spencer is out of Saturday's Test against Wales after failing to recover from the shoulder injury he sustained against England.

Scotland's Andy Irvine has urged caution among supporters still celebrating the defeat of South Africa at the weekend. The Scots ran out 21-6 victors over the Springboks at Murrayfield on Saturday for their first win over southern hemisphere opposition since 1981.

The former Scotland international believes the real yardstick for the Scottish triumph will be gauged after South Africa have played England at Twickenham on Saturday.

Irvine said: "It is always good to see young blood coming through but we must not get carried away. We have had two pretty sound wins – against Romania and South Africa – but it will be interesting to see how South Africa get on against England at the weekend.

"If the Springboks at least give England a test, then we can take a lot of credit from the game. But, if South Africa get a trouncing, it may just put our win into perspective.
