From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Your support makes all the difference.Wales' incredible victory over Italy has put them in pole position to win a third Six Nations title in four years, with matters now down to Ireland and England to reply if they are to have any say in winning the championship.
Needing to pile the points on against Italy, Wales looked to be down and out at half-time as they led by just one point at 14-13, but an incredible turnaround saw them run in 47 points through tries from Liam Williams, Rhys Webb, Scott Williams, Sam Warburton and a George North 10-minute hat-trick.
However, Ireland came out of the blocks like a scolded cat, with tries from Paul O'Connell, Jaryd Payne and a brace from Sean O'Brien sending them top of the table and end any Welsh hopes.
The result means that the pressure is now on England to beat France, who had their hopes of winnin ghte title ended by Wales' victory.
The situation for England is that they need to beat France by 26 points to beat Ireland and end the four-year wait for Six Nations glory.
