From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Four former All Blacks have paid their respects to Jerry Collins by performing the Haka near the site of the road accident that killed their team-mate.

Neemia Tialata posted the video of the tribute, which also featured Ali Williams, Carl Hayman and Chris Masoe, on social media, along with the message: “Saying goodbye 2the brother and his partner the way we were all brought up together #AllBlackFamily #RIPJC #RIPALANA.”

Collins and his partner, Alana Madill, were both killed last Friday morning after a bus smashed into their vehicle on a carriageway near a toll booth in Béziers, France.

The All Blacks quintet are all based in France, with Toulon’s Masoe and Tialata of Toulouse having formally to identify the body of Collins on behalf of his family in New Zealand.

Collins, 34, made his debut for New Zealand in 2001 and won 48 caps. The ex-Ospreys flanker had been playing for Narbonne. The couple’s three-month-old daughter is still fighting for her life in a Montpellier hospital.
