England head coach Eddie Jones has entered self-isolation after his assistant Matt Proudfoot tested positive for coronavirus.
The Rugby Football Union (RFU) said that Jones is not displaying any symptoms of the disease and that he will join his squad at St George’s Park next Thursday if he returns a negative result in the next round of testing.
Like Jones, Proudfoot is said not to be displaying any symptoms of coronavirus.
SIX NATIONS: France seek safety assurances from England and Ireland amid ongoing pandemic
“England coach Matt Proudfoot has tested positive for Covid-19 and is self-isolating,” read an RFU statement. “The test was carried out as part of England’s tournament testing regime for the upcoming Guinness Six Nations.”
Coach Simon Amor was also identified as a close contact of Proudfoot and must self-isolate for a 10-day period, unless he returns a negative result in the next round of testing – in which case he will join Jones and the England squad next Thursday.
The Six Nations is set to get under way on 6 February as Italy host France and defending champions England take on Scotland at Twickenham in London.
