Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The pool decider we have all been waiting for: the loser has to face South Africa in the quarter finals.

It’s a big game for…

Gareth Anscombe: For the first time, the New Zealand born fly half makes the switch to full back in a Wales shirt, having only played 30 minutes of international rugby. He’s up against one of the very best and he’s doing it in the hostile environment of Twickenham. Good luck to him!

Teams...

Australia: Israel Folau; Adam Ashley-Cooper, Tevita Kuridrani, Matt Giteau, Drew Mitchell; Bernard Foley, Will Genia; David Pocock, Sean McMahon, Scott Fardy; Dean Mumm, Kane Douglas; Sekope Kepu, Stephen Moore, Scott Sio.

Replacements: Tatafu Polota-Nau, James Slipper, Greg Holmes, Rob Simmons, Ben McCalman, Nick Phipps, Matt Toomua, Kurtley Beale.

Wales: Gareth Anscombe; Alex Cuthbert, George North, Jamie Roberts, Liam Williams; Dan Biggar, Gareth Davies; Talupe Faletau, Justin Tipuric, Sam Warburton; Alun Wyn Jones, Luke Charteris; Samson Lee, Scott Baldwin, Paul James.

Replacements: Ken Owens, Aaron Jarvis, Tomas Francis, Jake Ball, Ross Moriarty, Lloyd Williams, Rhys Priestland, James Hook.

Weird stat…

60: In every game so far in the World Cup, both the Wales and Australian defences manage to prevent tries being scored after 60 minutes. New Zealand are the only other team who have managed the same feat.

Remember when…

Quade Cooper passed out the back door? In 2013, Australia met Wales in the Autumn Internationals. Cooper set up one of the tries of the year with a wonderful offload underneath George North’s outstretched arms. It was so successful; he did it again later in the same match… much to North’s annoyance!

Player to watch…

Bernard Foley: the man who orchestrated the troupes to demolish England so professionally last week will be planning to do the same again against the Dragons. With half of his openside duo missing due to suspension, Foley will have to be even more on song to get past the Welshmen and top the pool.

Past three-meetings…

Wales 28 (Webb, Cuthbert, Jones, Penalty Try) – Australia 33 (Folau, Kurindrani) Autumn Internationals November 2014

Wales 26 (North (2)) – Australia 30 (Leali’ifano Folau, Tomane) Autumn Internationals November 2013

Wales 12 – Australia 14 (Beale) Autumn Internationals December 2012

Form guide…

Australia: WLWWWW

Wales: LWWWWW

Vital information…

Kick-off: 16.45 Saturday 10th October 2015.
