Reports from Australian broadcaster ABC say Wallabies star Karmichael Hunt was arrested on Saturday – along with another man – after being found with white powder.
In a statement, Rugby Australia said they were “aware of the incident” and had launched an investigation into the 31-year-old, who made his debut in June and signed a two-year deal after previously playing both Rugby League and Australian Rules.
“It is understood Hunt was arrested and has subsequently been released by Queensland police,” the statement said. “Rugby Australia takes all matters relating to the off-field behaviour of its players seriously and has commenced an investigation into the incident in conjunction with the Queensland Rugby Union.
“No further comment will be made at this time.”
The back, who plays for Queensland Reds as well as the Wallabies, has previously received a six week suspension and a £17,300 fine by rugby officials after pleading guilty to four counts of cocaine possession in March 2015.
He was also among seven Gold Coast Titans players charged over an alleged drugs ring uncovered by Queensland’s Crime and Corruption Commission.
