Wallace faces long Ulster lay-off
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Ulster captain Paddy Wallace may be sidelined for some time by the ankle injury he suffered while playing for Ireland against the Springboks last weekend.
Wallace, who hobbled off in the 34th minute, has had a scan in Dublin.
But whereas the IRFU medical team’s prognosis for Ulster colleague Stephen Ferris — who also picked up an ankle injury on Saturday — is that, hopefully, he should be fit to return against Stade Francais on Saturday, December 12, it was telling that there was no such prognosis in the case of Wallace. His injury “is still being assessed”.
The third Ulster player injured in last weekend’s Croke Park clash, South African tight head BJ Botha, is recovering from a knee injury.
Ulster will review the big Springbok prop’s progress on Monday.
Meanwhile, in response to recent speculation suggesting Botha may be moving on, Ulster have confirmed that he is under contract until June 2011.
