From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Ulster recorded a comprehensive win over a substandard Edinburgh on Friday night. Alan Solomons’ men failed to score any points while Rory Best and Nick Williams scored one try apiece, and Andrew Trimble got two. The 30-0 result leaves Ulster third in the table and Edinburgh third from bottom.

A late try from Sam Hobbs rescued a draw for Cardiff Blues against Connacht at the Sportsground. Nathan White and the ever-impressive Kieran Marmion scored four minutes apart for the home team and Robbie Henshaw got the other. Macauley Cook and Adam Thomas scored Cardiff’s other tries, while Rhys Patchell and Craig Ronaldson kicked nine points each for their respective teams to end the score at 24-24.

Ospreys made it five wins from five but were made to work for it against a stubborn Zebre side. Giulio Bisegni scored the only try of the game for the Italians while Gonzalo Garcia kicked nine points. Sam Davies replied with five penalties but missed four, and the scoreline of 14-15 could have been completely different had Davies - who replaced the injured Dan Biggar early in the match – and Luciano Orquera had their kicking boots on.

Ian Keatley scored 21 points including a try as Munster picked up a huge victory over rivals Leinster. The flyhalf also kicked 16 points to add to tries from Robin Copeland and James Cronin. Two conversions and three penalties from Ian Madigan helped narrow the gap, as did a Darragh Fanning try and a penalty try, but the final score ended 34-23 in favour of the men in red.

Glasgow sit comfortably atop of the PRO12 table after a bonus-point 40-23 win away at Treviso. Two tries from Tommy Seymour and one each for DTH van der Merwe, James Eddie, Sean Lamont and Tyrone Holmes helped secure the win, as well as ten points shared between the kicking efforts of Duncan Wier and Finn Russell. Michele Campagnaro crossed twice for the home team and Englishman Joe Carlisle kicked 11 points.

Sunday’s late afternoon game saw Scarlets beat Welsh rivals Newport Gwent Dragons 26-13 at Parc y Scarlets. Rhys Priestland kicked 13 points while Gareth Owen and Kristian Phillips crossed for the home team. Richie Rees scored the Dragons’ only try and they have now not won away from home since November last year.
