Bristol have suspended director of rugby Andy Robinson and appointed Mark Tainton as acting head coach.

Former England and Scotland head coach Robinson led the club back into the Aviva Premiership in May after a seven-year stint in the Championship.

Bristol, though, have struggled on their return to the top flight and have lost all seven of their games so far to sit bottom of the table.

Bristol chairman Chris Booy told the club's official website: "This is clearly a very difficult time for the club, but we remain confident we can retain our position in the Premiership.

"The support for the club this season has been outstanding and that continued backing is very important going forward. Thank you."
