From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Harlequins RL have announced the signing of Hull back-rower Mike Burnett on loan for the 2011 season.

Burnett, 22, is hotly tipped after emerging from the Black and Whites' academy but has struggled for first-team action due to the presence of the likes of Danny Tickle, Craig Fitzgibbon and Willie Manu in Richard Agar's squad.

He has made 36 appearances and also enjoyed a loan spell with Championship side Sheffield Eagles, and Quins coach Rob Powell said: "Mike is a player I have seen play frequently over the last few years. He has always impressed me.

"He has had limited first-team action due to Hull's wealth of talent in the back row, however I know he is hungry for the opportunity and has the mentality and tools to excel down here."

Burnett added: "I'm really excited about it and looking forward to the move. It will be a good test for me playing regularly at Super League level and a good opportunity for me to develop my game.

"Playing at a higher intensity with Quins RL will help me improve my game and hopefully then I can come back to Hull and stake a claim for a regular place in the side."

Agar insists that remains a strong possibility, and told the Airlie Birds' website: "The aim for us at the end of the season will be for us to sit down, review his performances and look to renew his contract, so this is a good challenge for him."
