Rugby Union: Plan Ahead
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.HONG KONG and international seven-a-side rugby have now become inseparable and this year's tournament, over the weekend of 26 and 27 March, will prove popular now that the covered 40,000- seat Government Stadium in Happy Valley has been completed.
Ireland and Scotland will be among the 24 teams and the President's VII is likely to comprise English and Welsh players. Western Samoa, however, will be there to defend their first title.
The Hong Kong Rugby Football Union have appointed five official agents in Britain to supply tours and tickets to the sevens. Popularly, the tour operators provide packages that combine Hong Kong with trips to Bangkok and Bali and island resorts in Thailand, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Tours can also be tailor-made. On the Wednesday and Thursday preceding the sevens, the Carlsberg 10s for clubs will be held at the Hong Kong Rugby Club.
Tickets for the two-day tournament are guaranteed, though the price has not been finalised, but should cost HKdollars 350-375 ( pounds 30- pounds 33).
