NEW ZEALAND lost a second World Cup within a year as a brave and competent France beat their students by a goal, three drop goals and two penalties to a goal and a penalty goal last night, writes Our Correspondent from Rovigo, Italy.
The French stand-off, Laurent Mazas, a talented punter and an astute drop-kicker, was at the scoring end of the newly found French composure with three drop goals. His first came seconds into the game, while his last two efforts in the second half were produced at a time when the French pack were disrupting New Zealand.
France: Try Marin; Drop goal Mazas 3; Penalties Lacroix, Fauthoux; Conversion Fauthoux. New Zealand: Try Leslie; Penalty D Love; Conversion Love.
