From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

NEVER mind the Springboks, the latest beefed-up B squad from England looks as if it could turn out a team capable of giving Will Carling's Grand Slam champions a run for their money let alone those currently on the hoof in France and due over here next month.

With the B boys facing the South Africans at Bristol on 7 November, included among the names announced yesterday in the preliminary training squad were Richard Hill and Mike Teague, who last season were first choices for England during the World Cup.

Hill, the Bath scrum-half, has slipped to No 3 after representing England throughout the Cup, while the battered back row Teague dropped out of playing altogether after the final against Australia and now plays Second Division rugby with Moseley rather than First Division rugby with Gloucester.

Still, both bring experience to the Bs, who took their lead last season from Stuart Barnes. And while Paul Challinor and John Steele are now named at stand-off, the list of seasoned campaigners is continued with the inclusion of the World Cup squad members, Simon Hodgkinson, Nigel Heslop, Chris Oti and Nigel Redman and the capped Andy Robinson, Andy Mullins and John Buckton.

Centres: J Buckton (Saracens), G Childs (Wasps), D Hopley (Cambridge University), S Potter (Leicester). Stand-offs: P Challinor (Harlequins), J Steele (Northampton).
