RUGBY UNION: ENGLAND'S FOUR NEW CAPS
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Jack Rowell believes an attacking full-back is a crucial component of any modern game plan and he has one in Stimpson who, at 6ft 3in and 16 stones, is probably the most imposing physical specimen to fill the position for England. Born in Liverpool, he performed mighty deeds in adversity for West Hartlepool last season and has been capped at under-16, 18, 21 and A team level.
Adedayo Adebayo (Bath) Age 26
The most threatening left wing in England during the early stages of the league campaign, the versatile back from Nigeria has successfully shed his costly playboy image since turning professional. A valuable member of England's World Cup Sevens-winning side in 1993, he has also represented his adopted country at under 18 and 21 level, the A team and toured South Africa with the full squad.
Andy Gomarsall (Wasps) Aged 22
One of the new breed of scrum-halves, Gomarsall has made an immediate and probably lasting impression on the England hierarchy, who did not hesitate to call him into the World Cup squad last year to cover for the injured Kyran Bracken. Gomersall has represented his country at every level up to full international; a product of Bedford School, he captained England Schools to a Grand Slam in 1992, their first in 11 years.
Simon Shaw (Bristol) Aged 23
The most striking second row in England at 6ft 9in and 20 stones, Shaw is a thoroughly modern member of the engine-room union - quick about the pitch and blessed with the hands of a centre. His recovery from shocking injuries to knee and ankle last year bore testimony to his determination, but he had already made his mark on the England set-up with brave performances in two violent South African tour matches in 1994.
