Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Salford's 100 per cent start to their first Super League season remained intact, after their 28-16 victory at Halifax yesterday.

The Reds have now won their first four matches in the top flight and stand at second place in the table behind St Helens, who lead on points difference and maintained their hold on the championship with a 44-6 victory over Paris on Saturday night.

Nathan McAvoy, Scott Naylor, Scott Martin and Gary Broadbent scored tries for Salford, who were playing their first away match of the season and ended a run of three successive home victories for Halifax.

Darryl Van de Velde began his reign as the new Warrington coach promisingly, as his side defeated Oldham 28-18 at Wilderspool. The centre John Roper did most of the damage, notching 16 points with a try and six goals from seven attempts, as Warrington followed up last Monday's victory over Wigan and left Oldham foundering at the foot of the table without a point.

In the First division, Hull maintained their unbeaten start to the season, with a 43-10 thrashing of Wakefield at the Boulevard.

They stay a point clear of Huddersfield, 18-12 winners over Featherstone, and there is a five-point gap back to Wakefield and Whitehaven, who pulled off a fine 21-12 success at Keighley.

Workington, relegated from the Super League last season, eased themselves away from the foot of the table with a comfortable 30-16 win over Dewsbury.
