Rugby League Round-Up: Hull display heart

BRADFORD had to dig deep to maintain their 100 per cent start to the Stones Bitter Championship at The Boulevard yesterday.

Hull, the bottom club, scrapped for every inch of turf against Peter Fox's side and, belying a disappointing start which has yielded one point from six games, played impressively before finally going down 12-6 to the league leaders.

It was a piece of individual brilliance which turned the match Bradford's way after an hour, the full-back David Watson spinning round from a play-the-ball to force his way over and leave Deryck Fox with a simple kick to seal the win.

The champions, Wigan, maintained their challenge when they went on a try-spree against Wakefield at Central Park to make it seven wins out of seven.

Gary Connolly led the way for the Riversiders as he collected a hat-trick of tries in their 46-0 win, staking his claim for a Great Britain Test spot in the process. A harrowing lesson was learned by the Belle Vue side, but the visitors did themselves no favours with a series of handling errors.

The most eventful match of the day was at the Watersheddings where Oldham and St Helens shared 36 points. Ambitious Saints were up against it after a bad start and found themselves facing a 16-6 deficit by the break.

But they staged a remarkable comeback for a share of the spoils when the full-back Steve Prescott went over for a try which Bobby Goulding improved with just three minutes left.

Doncaster's bubble seems to have well and truly burst following their 22-12 defeat at lowly Salford, who deserved their victory.
