Rugby League: Robinson facing lay-off

Wigan's Jason Robinson could be out of action for two months, but is still wanted by South Sydney when his contract expires in June, writes David Hadfield.

Robinson is to have a further examination tomorrow on the ankle he injured in the friendly against Castleford on Sunday. It is feared that there may be ligament damage which could force a long lay-off.

There has been more bad news for Wigan, in that the Australian Rugby League seems to have no intention of cancelling the contract that commits Robinson to leaving England this summer.

Souths have been in contact with him through an agent and have told him that they want him to play as a centre in Sydney.

The future of Wigan could be decided today with both the club chairman, Jack Robinson, and the Wigan Athletic chairman, Dave Whelan, who wants to buy Central Park, holding press conferences.

Bramley, who give Mick Shaw, the hooker they have borrowed from their new landlords, Leeds, his debut in the opening game of their Second Division season against York tonight, are also taking two more of Leeds' youngsters on loan. The twins Anthony and David Gibbons are both joining Bramley on a temporary basis, so that they can play regular first team rugby.
