Rugby League: No bansfor the Wigan pair
NO ACTION is to be taken against Wigan's Great Britain forwards, Kelvin Skerrett and Billy McGinty, following a three-hour hearing on their role in the brawl during the Challenge Cup quarter-final against Featherstone on 27 February.
The two players will now be free to play for Wigan in tomorrow's Challenge Cup semi- final against Castleford. Skerrett and McGinty were both called before the League after video evidence of the brawl was studied.
Their team-mate, Andy Platt, and Featherstone's Steve Molloy have both already served one-match bans for their roles in the incident.
Leigh yesterday confirmed that they are citing another of Wigan's Test forwards, Neil Cowie, for what they claim was a spear tackle in their match last Sunday. The Rugby League is being asked to look at video of the incident.
St Helens have appointed Brian Case, the former Warrington, Wigan, Leigh and Great Britain prop forward, as assistant coach to Eric Hughes.
Widnes' unenviable luck with players imported from overseas has continued with the news that Mark Elia, the New Zealand Test back, is out for the season with appendicitis.
