Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Andy Goodway ushered the club that sacked him into the First Division and possibly into oblivion last night, writes Dave Hadfield.
Goodway, favourite to be named as the new Great Britain coach next week but fired by Oldham in mid-season after a run of bad results, saw the team with which he also began his professional playing career lose 23- 12 to his present club, Paris.
The fear now is that Oldham will not be able to afford to play at their football neighbours' Boundary Park next season, raising doubts about their future.
Paris, faced with the possibility of relegation themselves if they had lost, opened up an 18-0 lead by half-time at the Charlety Stadium with David O'Donnell, Paul Evans and Jason Eades all going over for tries.
Oldham, without several key players, fought back after the break with tries from Luke Goodwin and Luke Davidson, but could not get close enough to have a chance of saving themselves.
