Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Western Samoan stand-off, Nigel Vagana, led Warrington's assault with a hat-trick of tries which left Castleford still without a Super League victory.
Cas looked capable of picking up at least a point when the substitute Richard Gay's 57th-minute touchdown made it 8-8. But Warrington scored three tries in the last 10 minutes, two of them by Vagana, to complete their third successive win.
Warrington led 8-4 at half-time. George Mann failed to hold a pass with the line open before they went ahead with a try from Vagana after Warren Stevens made the opening.
Castleford levelled with two penalties from centre Richard Goddard but Warrington regained the lead before half-time when Roper sent the scrum- half Kelly Shelford over. Cas squared the score again when Dean Sampson, Richard Russell and Ford combined to send Gay over.
Then Vagana took over, crossing in the 70th and 75th minutes, before winger Richard Henare went over in the last minute.
