From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The First Division club, currently locked in a legal dispute with the Rugby League, have spent almost the entire year in administration after running up debts of more than pounds 1m.
Howard Carter, the acting Keighley chairman who helped broker the deal, said: "The offer has been accepted in principle by the administrator.
"Although Mr Patel will be the major shareholder, I understand he intends to leave the board as it stands."
St Helens have signed Chris Smith, the 22-year-old Castleford winger. Saints have still to agree a fee with Castleford for the former Great Britain Under-21 international. Smith, who scored six tries in 25 appearances for Castleford last season, was out of contract at Wheldon Road.
He follows the Oldham trio Brett Goldspink, Paul Atcheson and Paul Davidson to St Helens alongside the Paris centre Jamie Olejnik and Paul Sculthorpe, the pounds 370,000 capture from Warrington.
Huddersfield have signed the 31-year-old centre Paul Loughlin and Australian prop forward Jeff Wittenberg, 24, in a pounds 25,000 deal from Bradford Bulls. The 6ft 4in Loughlin has signed a two-year-old contract and will make his debut in the New Year's Day friendly with Halifax at the McAlpine Stadium.
Huddersfield are awaiting the arrival from Australia of half-backs Craig Weston and Chris Orr, who are expected to play against Halifax.
