From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Hopman Cup ended with Marc Rosset in hospital as Croatia celebrated a bizarre victory in Perth, Western Australia.

Rosset injured his right hand punching an advertising board after the Swiss team squandered four championship points in the 10th game of the final set of the decisive mixed doubles. He played two more points before the pain forced him to forfeit.

The Olympic champion may now miss next week's Peters International tournament in Sydney and the Australian Open, which begins on 15 January in Melbourne. He will undergo a bone scan in Sydney today.

Goran Ivanisevic and Iva Majoli trailed Rosset and Martina Hingis 3-6, 7-6, 5-5, 0-30 when Rosset signalled that he could not continue. Hingis earlier defeated Majoli 6-3, 6-0 before Ivanisevic defeated Rosset 7-6, 7-5 to level the contest.
