Didier Auriol secured his second victory of the season, winning the Rally of Argentina in Cordoba. The Frenchman won the event in a Toyota Celica, six seconds ahead of Carlos Sainz's Subaru after an epic struggle. Auriol's victory was made easier by the misfortune that struck Juha Kankkunen, the four-times world champion. The Finn had began the final day in third place but was forced out with mechanical trouble.
