Raith's bubble bursts
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Raith Rovers gave Bayern Munich some anxious moments last night before goals from Jurgen Klinsmann and Markus Babbel sent the Germans through to the third round of the Uefa Cup.
Jean-Pierre Papin gave Raith a let-off when Ronnie Coyle brought down Christian Nerlinger in the box in the 22nd minute, but the Frenchman blasted over. Then, in the 42nd minute, Danny Lennon took a free- kick himself, and a deflection flew into the top corner.
In the 52nd minute the Germans sealed the tie. Coyle slipped in possession on the edge of the box and Alexander Zickler squared for Klinsmann to score from six yards.
Any hopes for Raith were ended in the 64th minute. Witeczek's corner was flicked on by Babbel, Thomas Helmer headed back in and when Thomson, under pressure from Zickler, could only knock the ball onto the bar, Babbel forced the ball in.
