The trainer-jockey combination of Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore earned a notable double in the feature races at Royal Ascot on Friday.

Moore guided American colt Caravaggio to a Commonwealth Cup victory and then delivered an equally convincing performance aboard Irish filly Winter in the Coronation Stakes to secure a pair of Group 1 victories.

"Ryan was very confident in him (Caravaggio). He said he was just going to pop him out and let it happen. He said he'd come there very late and that's exactly what he did," O'Brien said. "He's very quick. I don't think we've ever had a quicker horse."

Moore bided his time in the six-furlong (1,200-meter) Commonwealth Cup as Caravaggio closed on Godolphin pair Blue Point and Harry Angel before accelerating away over the final half-furlong.

Winter, an even shorter-priced favorite at 4-9, dismissed the challenges of Roly Poly and Hydrangea in the one-mile (1,600-meter) Coronation Stakes.

"She's just doing what she has to do," Moore said of Winter. "She's a very good filly and she's beaten some very good horses from France and America."

Irish colt Permian bounced back from a disappointing performance in the Epsom Derby this month to win the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes ahead of Khalidi and Crystal Ocean.

There were surprise winners in the day's other races as French 2-year-old Different League held off the favored Alpha Centauri to win the Group 3 Albany Stakes. The 20-1 shot was ridden by Antoine Hamelin.

William Buick rode Rare Rhythm to victory at the same price to secure his fourth winner of the week in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes.
