Racing: Wragg's reward is Walk of life

GEOFF WRAGG had his first winner of 1994 when Rainbow Walk made a belated winning debut at Lingfield yesterday. The Rainbow Quest colt was close to being destroyed two years ago after fracturing a pedal bone.

Wragg said during this rare trip by his stable to an all- weather track: 'The vets thought it was 50-50 that the horse would be put down. But I said to the owner (Sir Philip Oppenheimer) that he was such a nice horse that we should keep him.'

Asked about his smart three- year-olds First Trump, Nicolotte, Owington and Glatisant, he reported that First Trump would be running in the Free Handicap while the horse he beat in winning last year's Middle Park Stakes, Owington, has either that Newmarket trial or Newbury's Greenham Stakes as his comeback target.

Nicolotte, third to Grand Lodge in the Dewhurst, is likely to return in the Craven Stakes at Newmarket, where the stable's 1,000 Guineas candidate Glatisant is being aimed for the Nell Gwyn.

Patroclus, bought for 650gns five weeks ago, gave Church Broughton trainer John McKie his 100th winner when winning the last race at Nottingham yesterday at odds of 33-1.
